Locations:

Q: How accurate is Overnight when it tries to find locations nearest me?
A: It is very accurate on a 3G iPhone assuming the iPhone is able to get a clear GPS satellite signal. Older iPhones can only estimate your current location. However, while rare, any iPhone can have a hard time determining your location at certain times. The weather, certain areas of town, electrical disturbances, being inside a building with thick walls and other factors can cause the GPS in your iPhone to have a hard time determining your location. When this happens. Wait a few seconds, try to get a clearer view of the sky and perform a New Search or Refresh the location list. You can do this over and over if you’d like.

Q: Can I find which location is closest to me?
A: Yes, just click New Search in the Locations section and perform the search. Each time you make a search or Refresh the location listing the iPhone first determines your location, then looks for the drop-off locations, business centers and service centers closest to you.

Q: What if the iPhone isn’t showing me locations that are nearest me?
A: This situation is rare, but it’s important to know what to do if it happens. There are situations in which the iPhone may have a hard time determining your location.

Q: Can I find a location that is open on the weekend?
A: Yes. When you start a New Search in the Location section, you can select the day of the week that a location must be open for the location to appear in your search results. This is an optional selection and you should not normally use it, as it will force Overnight to not show you locations that, while not open, may still be accepting packages. Furthermore, some locations do not properly advertise their open and close times. So, we suggest you call the location to make sure they are open or closed before driving across town.

Q: Can I find only locations that are staffed?

A: Yes. First select the location from the list. You will find a button with the phone number of the location. When you click this button, your iPhone will dial this number. Normal call charges apply and there are no additional fees for making the call from Overnight. Drop boxes and some locations do not have a phone number. In this case you won’t be able to use Overnight to call the location directly.

Q: What does Refresh List button do at the bottom of the Location list?
A: When you tap Refresh List, Overnight will re-perform the last search and give you a list of updated Locations. This insures you are always looking at the locations closest to you if you have moved position since the last time you searched. Also, in some rare circumstances, the iPhone will have a hard time determining your exact location. Refreshing the list will help the iPhone try to find your exact location again.

A: It is. USPS and the Eagle represent the United States Postal Service.

ZIP Finder:

Q: What is ZIP Finder? Why do I need ZIP Finder?
A: You will need to know your ZIP code if you are trying to estimate the cost of sending a package using DHL, FedEx, UPS or USPS. It is also handy if you are out of town and trying to narrow down searches on Google to your local area. You can also use it to help a taxi service find you, determine which Post Office services your area for certified mail deliveries and probably lots of other stuff. Let us know what other ways you find to use it.

Q: ZIP Finder isn’t showing the right ZIP code. What’s wrong?
A: ZIP Finder finds the ZIP code that you are closest to the center of. So, although rare, it’s possible that you are in one ZIP code but closer to the center of another ZIP code. This is why we tell you the distance you are from the center of each ZIP code. Also, older iPhones and the iPod Touch have a harder time finding your exact location and may not give ZIP Finder your exact location.

Q: Why do I need the Refresh ZIP button?
A: You can get a more accurate reading of your current location and the closest ZIP code by tapping the Refresh ZIP button. This forces your iPhone to double check the location where it thinks you are at.

Q: Can I find other ZIP codes near where I am?
A: Yes, those are listed below the closest ZIP code.

Q: Can I send someone my ZIP code?
A: Not directly from Overnight. But you can text them or email it to them yourself using your iPhone.

Q: What does it mean when it says “You are ___ miles away from the center of”
A: ZIP Finder tells you how far you are away from the center of the ZIP codes. Sometimes you can be in one ZIP code, but closest to the center of another ZIP code. So please make sure to read the results carefully.

Q: What happens if I press the “Recommend” button?
A: By clicking Recommend you can tell a friend about ZIP Finder or Overnight so they can consider using Overnight on their own iPhone. Please help us spread the word about ZIP Finder and Overnight. We really appreciate your support.

Q: Where can I find the free, stand-alone app?
A: Both Overnight and ZIP Finder are available in the Apple App Store.

Tracking:

Q: What is tracking?
A: Tracking allows you to enter the tracking number of DHL, FedEx, UPS and USPS pacakges so you can track their progress, current status, find out where they were last reported and if they are delivered.

Q: Why do I want to use tracking?
A: While in the Tracking section, click the Track New button. Enter the tracking number (which may include letters) and click Track Package. Overnight will then contact the server to get the latest tracking information for that package. You can then tap the package in the list of Tracked Packages to get more information about that package.

Q: Am I charged for each package I track?
A: No. Overnight does not charge to track your package.

Q: What is the map for?
A: The map is an easy way for you to see where the package was last reported being.

Q: Why is the name of the person who signed for or accepted the package unavailable?
A: Some carriers do not provide this information or the package has not been delivered yet.

Price:

Q: How accurate is the price quote that Overnight gives me?
A: The price quote is very accurate as we get this information from the carrier. However, there are many factors that will make the price you pay different than what is quoted. Prices are subject to change at any time. Pre-negotiated discounts, differences in weight, special services requested, special arrival days, signature procedures and a whole host of other factors will make what you pay different than what is quoted. Overnight gives you an accurate estimate, but it’s always a good idea to confirm the price with the carrier before sending your package.

Q: I put in all my information for the package, how do I get it to price?
A: There is a button called “Price It” at the top right hand corner of the screen. Tap this to get your price.

Q: Can I select multiple carriers so that all the prices are on the same screen?
A: Not at this time. You must get price quotes from each carrier one at a time. To get a price from another carrier, tap another carrier icon and click Price It again. Some carriers have different Price Settings. So make sure to double check your settings before clicking Price It again.

Q: Why do I have to input the ZIP codes the package is coming from and going to?
A: The carriers need to know this information to give you a price quote.

Q: How do I pick a package type?
A: On the Price Settings screen, click Package Type. Then select whether you are going to use the Carriers own packaging (such as one of their pre-printed envelopes or boxes) or if you are going to use your own packaging (like a cardboard box). If you use a carrier’s packaging you won’t have to enter size, but you will need to enter weight. If you use your own packaging you will need to enter both weight and size.

Q: What if I don’t know how heavy my package is?
A: You can estimate the weight, but you should confirm the cost with the carrier before sending your package.

Q: What if my package is very heavy or very large?
A: Each carrier has their own rules on large or heavy packages. If you enter size and weight information into Overnight that the carrier will not accept, Overnight will alert you. But Overnight will not be able to tell you exactly what the carrier refused. In these rare cases, we suggest you change the size and weight of the package to get a low estimate and to contact the carrier to get an accurate estimate.

Q: Can I pick Kilograms and Centimeters instead of pounds and inches?
A: Yes. If you have turned on Metric Conversion in the Locations Search Settings screen, metric units are used throughout the Overnight application.

Q: What is “Pick Up / Drop Off”?
A: To give you an accurate price quote, the carrier needs to know how they are going to get the package from you in order to send it to its destination. Each carrier has different options, so make sure to pick the right option based on the carrier you have selected.

Q: Will it cost more if I use my own packaging?
A: Each carrier has their own rules on pricing packages. To get an answer to this, you can request a price quote for both options and determine if there is a difference.

Q: What is the picture of the Eagle?
A: This is the United States Postal Services logo.

Q: Why isn’t the United States Postal Service in the Price settings screen so that I can get a quote from the Post Office?

A: It is. USPS and the Eagle represent the United States Postal Service.

Q: What is “Value Protection”?
A: This is an optional service offered by carriers to protect the value of the shipment should something become lost or damaged. Each carrier handles this coverage differently and you should contact the carrier for more information.
